A busy, transit-oriented pocket straddling Victoria Road, this suburb has spent decades shifting from working-class housing and light industry toward riverfront apartment living.

That shift shows in the pipework as much as the streetscape. Between Anthony Road and West Parade, interwar and postwar brick and fibro cottages still line the older subdivisions, many of them fitted originally with galvanised water pipes that corrode from the inside and choke off pressure over time.
